The word paradise is usually understood as an ideal space, where everything seems tranquil, calm, beautifully organized... it is a non-space, a utopia, a fiction for escaping reality. In today's world the construction of this fictitious paradise begins when we accept what we see on TV or in the magazines- incredible bodies, crystal blue seas, intensely green fields- as where we want to go, what we want to be. For Belinchón, the world has become a large attraction park where every participant wants to see and be seen, consume and be consumed.

His new video project, using the found material of over 15 hours of Super-8 video, shows a vision of different vacations in the seventies whose protagonists are two anonymous, middle-aged women. New York, Disneyland, Minorca, Miami... tourist sites with the gaze of that period, spaces that still today make us consider the way in which we travel, observe and interact.

Sergio Belinchón (Valencia, 1971) lives and works in Berlin. His series of videos and photographs capture the presence and the absence of man in urban spaces, as well as our position as tourists or as people in transit. His work has been shown in the National Museum of Contemporary Art, the Reina Sofía (MNCARS, Madrid, 2004) in the Palau de la Virreina (Barcelona, 2003), in MUSAC (León, 2005), Galeria Dels Àngels (2005, 2003), or in Invaliden Galerie (Berlin, 2006). Currently, he is filming for an ambitious project in Berlin on the idea of the wall and the border.

La palabra Paraiso suele ser entendida como un espacio ideal en la tierra, donde todo parece tranquilo, pacífico, bellamente organizado… es un no lugar, una utopía, una ficción para escapar de la realidad.  En el mundo contemporáneo  la construcción de este paraíso ficticio empieza cuando aceptamos lo que vemos en la TV, en las revistas- cuerpos increíbles, mares de azul transparente, praderas de verde intenso – es donde queremos ir o lo que queremos ser. Para Belinchon, el mundo se ha convertido en un gran parque de atracciones donde cada participante quiere ver y ser visto, consumir y ser consumido.

Esta nueva video proyección de Sergio Belinchón, muestra, a partir de un material encontrado de más de 15 horas de video Super-8, una visión de distintas vacaciones protagonizadas por dos mujeres anónimas, de mediana edad, en los años setenta. Nueva York, Disneylandia, Menorca, Miami… sitios turísticos  con la mirada de aquella época, espacios que todavía hoy nos hacen meditar sobre la forma en la que viajamos, observamos y nos relacionamos.

Sergio Belinchón (Valencia, 1971) vive y trabaja en Berlín. Sus series de videos y fotografías retratan la presencia y ausencia del ser humano en el espacio urbano, así como nuestra actitud de transeúntes o turistas. Su trabajo se ha podido ver en MNCARS (Madrid, 2004), Palau de la Virreina (Barcelona, 2003), MUSAC (León, 2005), la Galeria Dels Àngels (2005, 2003), o en Invaliden Galerie (Berlín, 2006).  En estos momentos está trabajando en una ambiciosa filmación en curso en Berlín sobre la idea del muro y la frontera.
