"Playing Games, Paying Games", 2005
Animation DVD (PAL). 12'

Sven’s vision offers the game as contemporary society lure into a virtual reality in our days, everybody plays. Nobody wants to be a loser, as if life was a competition. The media induce the want for winning leaving those who lose aside. The game consists in simulating a situation obeying a set of rules that usually come from reality and that video games take to an extreme. On the other hand, since Las Vegas became the world’s gambling capital, the casino became an open and accessible environment for the general public.

Other incentives have been added to the gambling experience, such as luxury buildings, live music, dance, and even the circus that potentiated the festiveenvironment that surrounds this game of apparent luck and chance. PAHLSSON’S work represents the 3D escape of contemporary society into a more comfortable, more attractive, unreal virtual world.

Sven P. works for over a year in each project, applying the latest technologies to attain maximum quality. He has been working with 3D animation for over 10 years. His work has been seen in the Oslo Contemporary Art Museum, MOMA-PS1, the New York New Museum, MUSAC, MNCARS, as an “Art Statement” at the Basel Fair and at the “Video Cube” in FIAC/03, and represented Norway in the 1997 Venice Biennale.
