galeria dels àngels announces its new project: |
CARLES VALVERDE (Terrassa, 1965) |
![]() Sculpture of carbon fibre, 2001. 125 x 34 x 32.5 cm Lead, Korean paper, 2001. 162 x 123 cm |
Valverde's highly architectural works reflect on the relationship between the object, its environment, and the spectator. His pieces maintain that the possibility to transform and adapt to a specific space is innate in every object and on this premise, his works engage visually and physically with their surroundings. His sculptures are geometric, compact and lineal, displaying the communication between the artist and the material, and also the force of the material to achieve an order based on its shape, its physical characteristics and its surface texture. Very often, Valverde has worked with architects to create sculpture for a specific site and the artist frequently works on large scale projects. Spectator participation is a vital element to the artist's work, whether working in small scale and inviting a viewer to manipulate the form of the sculpture or posing large scale works that frame and reflect their environment based on the physical location of the observer.
